Summary The painting is 460 cm by 880 cm ( 180 in by 350 in .) It covers an end wall of the dining hall in a monastery in Santa Maria Delle Grazie, Milan. The painting was commissioned by Sfortza. Leonardo started the painting in 1495 and completed it in 1498. ( Leonardo did not work on it continuously ) A prior from the monastery complained to Leonardo about the delay. This made Leonardo very angry. Leonardo told him that he had a hard time finding a villainous face for Judas so that if he could not find one he would use the face of the prior who had complained. The beginning date is not certain. The archives of the convent for the period has been destroyed and a document dated 1497 indicates the painting was nearly completed around that date. It includes several lost features such as christ’s feet and the salt cellar spilled by judas. There is also a Last Supper scene made in salt in the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland (This one was not made by Da Vinci)
